Lombok is covered in lush tropical rainforest with Mount Rinjani's outline shadowing over the island; a constant reminder of the island's fertile soil and dramatic landscape. Surrounding the foothills of the volcano and leading up to the summit are so many beautiful waterfalls. During your stay in Lombok, explore some of these stunning waterfalls. Always be sure to plan your journey ahead, and consider visiting with an experienced guide to help you learn more about the area to enjoy a carefree trip.
Sendang Gile and Tiu Kelep Waterfalls
Start chasing waterfalls in the north of Lombok at Sendang Gile and Tiu Kelep Waterfalls. Located at the foot of Mount Rinjani, the same trail will take you to both waterfalls. First, you will pass Sendang Gile, which is a two-tiered waterfall dropping into a shallow river. Continue your walk for another fifteen minutes, and you will reach Tiu Kelep, which is one of the most significant and well-known waterfalls in Lombok. With just a single stream of water flowing and many lighter falls gushing underneath it, it is an incredible sight to see. The water flow can be powerful; therefore, swimming is not recommended.
Benang Stokel Waterfall
In central Lombok, Benang Stokel and Bengang Kelambu Waterfalls bring a choice of watering holes to discover. Each of the falls is simple to navigate and can be reached on your own. Otherwise, opt for a tour to take you there. Take extra care in the rainy season; when the track becomes slippery. Benang Stokel Falls is a collection of three waterfalls falling into a shallow pool. The stunning overgrown, lush green forest makes it a beautiful site to see. Visit the jumping spot nearby, which is an 11-metre drop into a canyon, and always check beforehand if it's safe to jump. Benang Kelambu waterfall brings flowing freshwater streaming down a forest wall. The two-tier waterfall is perfect for swimming in with its man-made pond sitting below.
Mayang Putek is a very unique waterfall due to its sulphur content, which is believed to have healing properties. Water flowing streams directly from Mount Rinjani and the dramatic 60-metre fall is set in the north of Lombok in Bilok Petun village. Mayang Putek is a bit more of a journey to reach, and it takes about 30 minutes to go down the steps and across a river. You will need some energy on the trip back up, but it will be worth it to experience this healing water.
Jukut/Jeruk Manis Waterfall
This waterfall is believed to have magical properties, like curing disease and nourishing hair. At the foot of Mount Rinjani, it is a 30-metre fall, with gushing water flowing into a narrow river and rocks. You'll need to buy a ticket to enter the falls and walk for about 15 minutes to reach the location. On the journey, there are about 180 steps and stones to climb too.
When visiting waterfalls in Lombok, always be sure to return before the sun goes down. As walking along paths that have not been maintained and rainforest at night can be challenging to navigate and sometimes dangerous.
