The best places to relax in Lombok

Many people opt to visit Lombok instead of Bali due to its quieter pace and more untouched landscape. During your stay, visit some of the top places to relax in Lombok, to truly unwind and kick into holiday mode.

Go island hopping

The best way to relax and disconnect in Lombok is going island hopping to the many remote and quiet havens scattered around the edges of Lombok. Beyond the Gili Islands, Lombok has a choice of islands further south, in both the east and west.

Off the southwest coast of Lombok are Gili Sudak, Gili Gede, Gili Asahan, Gili Layar and Gili Rengit nearby. Most of the islands are uninhabited, which is what brings the appeal to discovering these quiet tropical islands. It really feels like you are worlds away. Gili Sudak has a hotel on it, however, if you are visiting in low season be mindful of closures.

On the other side of Lombok in the east are more islands; Gili Bidara, Gili Kondo, and Gili Kapal – and its water has been likened to that of the Maldives. Visit these islands for a quiet escape, to enjoy snorkelling and explore the natural landscape surrounding Lombok.

Relax poolside

Stay in one of the many villas across Lombok. Spend your days relaxing by the pool or sunbaking on the beach. Organise your accommodation near Kuta to make the most of the surf culture and beaches.

Retreat to the countryside

Being surrounded by rice fields and wildlife is the ultimate way to end a day of exploring. To get back in touch with nature, consider basing yourself in Tetebatu village for a quiet retreat, away from the hustle and bustle. Here there are cheaper accommodation options and very few tourists, which make it an ideal place to learn about Lombok’s culture and everyday life.

Take a road trip through the island

Hire a car and drive down the northwest coast to explore Lombok’s rugged coastline. Lined with hills showcasing panoramic views of the sea with tiny villages nestled between lush trees. Along the sandy beaches, you will see the shoreline covered in catamarans too. Travelling by car is a very scenic way to explore Lombok’s coast.

Escape to the Gili Islands

Once you have explored the remote islands surrounding Lombok, it is time to head straight for the Gili Islands. If you are looking for a relaxing and quiet escape, then Gili Meno and Gili Air are perfect. While Gili Trawangan has a much busier scene and more of a party vibe; so if you would like to relax but also be entertained with activities and nightlife, then consider this island. Boats travel daily between the three islands too.

Relax on Bukit Merese Hill

Watch the sunset over the Indian Ocean from Bukit Merese Hill, one of Lombok’s most beautiful spots to watch the sunset. From here you will have a view of Tanjung Aan Beach, home to white sand and sparkling blue water.
